History of Bigfoot / Wild Dog Stomps

2000~2005  Wolftone

Working in sales, instrument repair and live sound in Byron Music, back around the turn of the century, customers would ask me how I would make a stomp box. The rest is history, as they say.

At the time I was unaware of any other commercially available stomp boxes. My early examples were ok, but the sound I had in my head wasn’t the sound I was achieving. My aim from day 1, was to make the very best. The first 5 years saw dozens of prototypes, sales grew steadily, but still, that sound alluded me.

2006~2015 Bigfoot

I was on the verge of throwing in the towel in the latter part of 2005, when I revisited an earlier pickup idea. The sound was so different I felt that I needed to draw a line, with the help of my brother, Bigfoot was born. That allusive sound was now within my grasp. The Wolftone pickup was an active system requiring battery and preamp, this new pickup was passive, so no battery and it sounded huge.

By this time, other stomp boxes began to appear so I figured it was time to make a smaller, more portable unit. The first words that came from my lips when it was completed were “this thing is a little monster”. The Little Monster was born and the Bigfoot evolution continues to this day.

2016 ~ Wild Dog

At the end of 2015 a very large, very wealthy company based in Europe and the USA filed against my trademark on the Bigfoot name for non use.

This was not so, and absolutely defendable, but I was faced with enormous costs and the possibility of losing everything to a big organisation with very deep pockets.

In a very short space of time I decided to embrace this forced change and the WildDog name just seemed an obvious choice. Take it back to the beginning, breathe new life into Indigos paw print (my long since departed Blue Heeler) Introduce the metal bodies that I had been refining over the past 18 months and start a new chapter.

The evolution continues.

Following on from the ‘LUCKY 13’ limited edition and rapidly approaching our 17th birthday ‘SWEET 16’ was obvious. 2016 the year of the WildDog.
